Postcards from Abroad
Spaghetti Hopper
James Macfarlane
Antique postcards are used as the backdrop for modern revisitations of the myths and legends which characterize the well-known settings typical of postcards
Galleria Arter, Milan, & La Fabbrica, Rome 2010; Galleria ImmagineColore Genova 2011
Well-known works by Edward Hopper are transposed to Italian settings, as if Hopper had actually visited and painted in Milan, Venice, Florence, Rome and Naples.
James Macfarlane makes collages the traditional way, with scissors and glue and images gathered from magazines, books and catalogues. His only concession to modern technology is photocopies, copying a printed image and then enlarging or reducing it as needed.
